When The Power Goes Out, Arkansas Cooperatives Stay On

electric workers in bucket trucksLittle Rock, Ark. — June 17, 2025 —Farmers Electric Cooperative of Newport and Woodruff Electric Cooperative of Forrest City are temporarily providing power to 1,600 Entergy customers in the McCrory, Augusta and Tupelo areas who lost power on Sunday afternoon due to a substation issue.

The locally governed electric cooperatives are assisting Entergy Arkansas customers with retail power with assistance from Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC), the generation and transmission cooperative for the state’s member-owned cooperative.

According to officials at Farmers Electric and Woodruff Electric, the assistance will not have a negative impact on rates or service provided to Woodruff or Farmers Electric members.

“Issues of this nature occur and we are always willing to work to ensure the safety and comfort of all Arkansans,” said Buddy Hasten, president/CEO of AECC. “We are always better connected together in times of need.”

The Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas comprise 17 electric distribution cooperatives; Arkansas Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (AECI), a Little Rock-based cooperative that provides services to the distribution cooperatives; and Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC), a generation and transmission cooperative. The distribution cooperatives provide electricity to approximately 1.2 million members, or customers, in Arkansas and surrounding states.
